Welcome to the return of our blog here at Caitlin McDonald Events!
After a sweet, pre-season annual staycation, we’re feeling rejuvenated, rested and ready to dive into all the magic that’s bound to happen over the next few months of the wedding season! I decided, what better way to relaunch the blog than to share about our recent stay at The Allison Inn in Newberg – a venue we also love to wedding plan at! My husband and I took a much-needed two day stay, for the first time away from our 16mo old and were transported to the most peaceful, relaxing and wonderful weekend compliments of the Allison Inn staff! Read on to hear more about my thoughts on the new Chef’s Tasting Menu, the Spa, and the surrounding wineries.
A Little Bit About the Allison Inn and Spa
The Allison Inn and Spa is tucked into Oregon’s famous Willamette Valley Wine Country and is also voted the #1 Hotel and Spa in Oregon compliments of U.S News! It is also one of the top hotels in the State to host your wedding and we’re honored to be on their coveted list of Preferred Planners. Whether you’re planning an intimate elopement in their Vineyard Overlook, or a large 200+ gathering in the Coppergold Ballroom, The Allison Inn checks every box for clients wanting great food, an awesome bar, and beautiful spaces to take in the views.

Culinary Artistry: The Chef's Tasting Menu
Dining at JORY, the Inn’s signature restaurant, is an experience unto itself—but the Chef’s Tasting Menu elevates it to something unforgettable. Each course was beautifully presented and thoughtfully paired with local wines, many of which come from neighboring vineyards just minutes away. The focus on seasonal ingredients and Pacific Northwest flavors shines through in every bite. Standouts included the seasonal Forest Floor dish, pinenut log, porcini mousse, goat cheese, pickled mushroom, horseradish purée, spruce tip snow. This was not only an incredibly delicious meal, but the presentation was gorgeous - the plate perfectly symbolizing the ocean floor, and with flatware that was intentionally chilled to offer an experience from the moment you pick up your fork, until the very last bite.

A Spa Experience Like No Other
One of the true highlights of our stay was our visit to The Allison Spa. My husband and I enjoyed a couple’s massage in the Zen Den on a beautifully warm morning, and it was nothing short of magical. The peaceful setting, paired with the gentle sounds of birdsong drifting through the open air, made it feel like time stood still. It was romantic, tranquil, and deeply restorative. I can only imagine how equally lovely the experience would be on a rainy day, with the soft patter of raindrops creating its own soothing soundtrack. Whether you're seeking a quiet moment alone or a shared escape, the spa at The Allison offers an unforgettable sanctuary. A special note - make sure if you're booking spa appointments during peak wedding season (June-October) that you do so months in advance as they fill up fast!

Rooms that exude modernity, sophistication and pay homage to the earthiness of Oregon
The guest rooms are an elegant blend of comfort and modern sophistication. Earthy tones, plush bedding, gas fireplaces, and large soaking tubs make for an inviting and restful stay. Floor-to-ceiling windows bring in natural light and views of vineyards, gardens, or the distant mountains—each room offers a peaceful connection to the surrounding landscape. Every detail, from the artwork to the lighting, is curated with care. For weddings, the couple are treated to a gorgeous penthouse stay, which is a stunning room located on it's own floor amongst the few other penthouses. This includes turn down service, and other spacious amenities.
A Cozy Corner: The Renovated Library
One of my favorite spots during the stay was the newly renovated library. With its warm wood tones, soft lighting, and cozy fireplace, it was the perfect place to unwind with a glass of wine or a good read while we took a mid-day break to enjoy lunch upon arrival at the Inn. My husband says they have the best Pinot Burger in all of Oregon... and I'd have to agree! It was the PERFECT first meal for us upon arriving... make sure you get the truffle fries and split the burger though because it is more than enough for two! In addition to the great food and cozy nooks, the Library offers a separate spa shopping corner by the lobby which is the perfect pitstop to grab any forgotten goodies from home, as well as to add new finds for a spa experience at home.
Final Thoughts
If you're looking for a luxurious, soul-soothing retreat in Oregon wine country, The Allison Inn & Spa checks every box. Whether you're indulging in the spa, savoring a world-class meal, or simply soaking in the peaceful surroundings, every aspect of your stay is curated to offer rest, inspiration, and a deep connection to the region. And even better yet, if you're preparing for your wedding, we suggest arriving a few days ahead of the celebrations to soak in the relaxing surroundings before the events begin!
