A Ralph Lauren-Inspired Wedding at Juniper Preserve
There are certain weddings where the design direction feels clear almost immediately and this wedding at Juniper Preserve was one of them.
From the beginning, we knew we wanted the celebration to feel rich, classic and layered, with a very Ralph Lauren-inspired point of view. Think deep chocolate brown, warm neutrals, polished silver, tailored patterns and beautiful textures all set against the rugged and natural landscape of Central Oregon.
But as much as this wedding was about design, it was also the perfect example of something we talk about constantly with our couples: when you’re planning an outdoor wedding, especially in Oregon, your weather plan needs to be part of Plan A.
Planning an Outdoor Wedding in Central Oregon Means Planning for Weather
There is nothing quite like an outdoor wedding in Bend. The high desert landscape, mountain views and incredible summer evenings are a huge part of what makes venues like Juniper Preserve so special. They also come with unpredictable weather.
When we began planning this reception, we booked a beautiful sailcloth tent from the very beginning. It wasn't considered our "rain backup." The tent was intentionally incorporated into the design as part of Plan A and I cannot emphasize enough how much I love this approach.
A tent should never have to feel like something you're reluctantly putting up three days before your wedding because the weather forecast suddenly changed. When possible, I would much rather design around a tent from the beginning, allowing it to become an architectural element of the celebration.
In this case, that decision paid off.
During wedding week, the forecast suddenly began showing rain and thunderstorms. Because the tent itself was already secured, we weren't scrambling to locate an available structure at the last minute. Instead, we were able to adjust our existing plan and add tent walls and additional weather protection as the forecast developed. Weather planning isn't about assuming the worst. It's about creating a celebration that can adapt without completely changing the experience you've spent months designing and sometimes, those moody skies actually make the setting even more beautiful.
A Rich, Classic Ralph Lauren-Inspired Wedding Design
From a design perspective, our inspiration lived somewhere between a beautifully layered Ralph Lauren interior and an intimate dinner party in the high desert. We wanted warmth. We wanted texture. We wanted pattern.
But we also wanted restraint.
Rather than adding detail to absolutely every surface, we intentionally kept the tabletop relatively clean and classic and allowed our textiles to do much of the visual work.
Deep brown velvet linens immediately gave the reception an incredible richness (which the bride fell in love with at our floral mockup). Against the natural setting at Juniper Preserve, the chocolate tone felt sophisticated without feeling overly formal or heavy. And there was another reason brown felt especially appropriate: it was a subtle nod to the couple's beloved chocolate lab, Hank... which I think even they didn't know they subconsciously had Hank in mind!! ;)
Those are some of my favorite design details—the ones guests may never immediately recognize, but that give the celebration another layer of meaning for the couple. As another nod to sweet Hank, the couple had the cutest tennis ball favors for all of their furry friends!
Turning a Napkin Pattern Into a Custom Dance Floor
One of my absolute favorite elements of this wedding started with the NAPKIN. Yep, you heard it here first!
We had selected a classic patterned napkin that perfectly captured the Ralph Lauren feeling we were trying to create. Rather than allowing that pattern to live only on the dinner tables, I wanted to find a way to repeat it somewhere unexpected. So I called up Little Rainbow Rentals and Karla and I recreated the pattern on a completely custom dance floor. It became one of the strongest design moments of the entire reception.
I love finding opportunities like this within a design. Not necessarily adding more, but taking one detail that already belongs within the visual story and repeating it in a way that makes the entire space feel connected. The napkin wasn't just a napkin anymore. It became part of the architecture of the room. And once dinner transitioned into dancing, that same pattern guests had been seeing throughout the evening suddenly became the backdrop to the party (and it was a PARTY).
Bringing the Outdoors In With Hand-Sourced Aspen Trees
And then there were the trees.
One of the most special and definitely most memorable elements we brought into the sailcloth tent were hand-sourced aspen trees, each more than 16 feet tall, that I quite literally sourced from my cousin's property and Gloria's team at High Desert Florals went and processed!
Because sometimes event design also means calling your family and asking if you can have their trees. ;)
But truly, these completely transformed the space and I had to have them.
We never wanted the tent to feel like a structure that had simply been placed in the middle of the landscape. We wanted it to feel connected to Juniper Preserve and to the natural beauty surrounding it. Bringing these enormous aspens inside blurred that line between indoors and outdoors in such a beautiful way.
Suddenly, the sailcloth tent felt less like a tent and more like an outdoor living room. The trees added height, softness and movement while creating this incredible sense of intimacy beneath such a large structure. Paired with the warm brown velvet, layered lighting and residential-inspired details, they helped create exactly what we wanted guests to feel when they walked inside: warmth, hospitality and an invitation to stay awhile.
And I think that feeling is ultimately what great event design should do.
It isn't just about creating something beautiful to photograph. It's about creating an environment that immediately tells your guests, come in, get comfortable, you're taken care of here.
Using Silver Accents to Finish the Story
Silver became another important thread throughout the wedding. With so many warm brown and neutral tones in the palette, we wanted something cooler and more polished to give the design contrast as well as we wanted to pay homage to a true Ralph Lauren staple metal.
We incorporated silver through the signage, trays used to pass martinis, favor holders and other smaller styling moments throughout the celebration. Those details gave us exactly the tailored, collected quality we wanted. And that is really the key to designing around a strong inspiration like Ralph Lauren: you don't need to turn every single element into a literal interpretation of the theme. Instead, you identify the materials, colors and textures that define the feeling. For us, that meant velvet. Pattern. Chocolate brown. Polished silver. Classic glassware. Warm lighting. Tailored details. Together, they created a design that felt layered and luxurious while still completely at home in Central Oregon.
Great Wedding Design Also Has to Work
This wedding was such a good reminder that beautiful events aren't created through aesthetics alone. The sailcloth tent was beautiful—but it was also practical (and my clients know my #1 question to all things, always is "is it functional?")
The velvet linens were visually impactful but they also allowed us to keep the remainder of the tabletop refined while also introducing a warmth to the tabletop that was sure to give the illusion of a warmer temperature later into the evening.
The custom dance floor was a statement but it came directly from a design element already being used elsewhere and from a staple print from Ralph Lauren.
Every decision had a reason.
That intersection between beautiful design and thoughtful logistics is where I think weddings become truly special. When you're planning an outdoor wedding in Bend, Oregon, you can't control whether a surprise storm appears in the forecast (or within the next hour lol).
You can build a plan flexible enough to handle it.
And when that plan also happens to include a gorgeous sailcloth tent, chocolate velvet, martinis passed on silver trays and a custom Ralph Lauren-inspired dance floor?
